Oval manways with sides max 300-500 mm long - basic information

Oval manways with sides up to 300-500 mm in length make up the largest group among all dimensional categories of oval manholes. They owe their popularity to both their relatively wide opening and good pressure resistance.

 

This group includes manways of popular sizes, including:

  • 300x440 mm,
  • 400x490 mm,
  • 345x445 mm,
  • 480x370 mm and many more.

 

As standard, manways are made of AISI 304/304L or AISI 316/316L stainless steel.

Design and opening method of oval manways 300-500 mm

Oval manways 300-500 mm are available in two construction versions:

  • with a standard (universal) frame,
  • with a frame bent to the diameter of the tank.

Manways with a standard frame have a mounting base of a certain height (usually 60-100 mm). The manway is installed by connecting (welding) the frame into a previously prepared hole in the tank wall.

 

In the case of manways with a frame bent to the diameter of the tank, an additional advantage is the extremely consistent and visually pleasing final appearance of the tank. This is because manways of this type do not protrude significantly beyond the outline of the external wall of the tank. This solution is particularly appreciated in the construction of brewery or wine tanks.

 

The common way to open oval manways is to move the cover toward the inside of the tank. Some inward-opening models also allow the cover to slide outward when the tank is empty (for example, for cleaning purposes), thanks to a special hinge with a curved design.

 

Oval manway models are also available with the cover opening only to the outside of the tank (mainly installed in the top/upper part of the tanks).
