Stainless steel manways for barrels – design

Stainless steel manways designed for installation in wooden barrels are characterised by a frame enabling the manway to be fixed to the wooden surface, usually with screws. Rectangular and oval designs are dominant among the manways for barrels. Normally, this type of manway is mounted within the side shell of a wooden tank or in the lid (in case of horizontal barrels).

Manways for wooden tanks are available in two options:

  • with outward opening lid and frame fixed outside the tank (with screws),
  • with inward opening lid and frame for partial installation within the barrel lid.

Application of manways for wooden tanks

Manways suitable for installation in wood are commonly used as an inspection part in tanks:

  • for storing white or red wine (and related products),
  • for storing vinegar,
  • for aging whisky, cognac, brandy or other spirits.
